Narendra Modi - A Leader of Gujarat

Narendra modi speaks a Gujarati purged of Persian words, better crafted. His Hindi is marked by his nasal accent, but is correct. Radiating charisma in the state, Narendra Modi is positioning himself to be the Prime Minister of the country. Will narendra modi be able to pull the plug and reach the top most position as there are some who have perceived Modi as a man of steel having gone through fire. The constant picking media barbs have not left him embittered. We can tell by understanding him as a person. Born on 17th September 1950, he is 61. His resume says he has a master’s in political science. Brought up in Vadnagar, a small town in Mehsana, he grew up in a culture that instilled in him the values of generosity, benevolence and social service.

At a very young age, he volunteered to serve the soldiers in transit at railway stations during the time of Indo-Pak war in the mid sixties. Modi helped the flood affected people in the state in 1967. Equipped with excellent organizational capability and a rich insight into human psychology, he was appointed as the student leader of Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (All India Student’s Council) and played a prominent role in various socio-political movements in the state. In 1970s, and with the changing time, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a socio-cultural organization with a focus on social and cultural development of India and imbibed the spirit of selflessness, social responsibility, dedication and nationalism. Having gained experience in student politics and RSS, he entered into the political mainstream in 1987 by joining the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and swiftly reached to a position of General Secretary within a year.

Known as a master strategist who had successfully gained the necessary groundwork for making BJP as the ruling party of the state, Modi was appointed as the National Secretary of the party in 1995, which is kind a rare distinction of any political leader of any party. He then moved on to be the General Secretary of the party and held that position until October 2001, when narendra modi was chosen to be the Chief Minister of the leading and progressive state in the country.

At a given opportunity and given time, he took the responsibility of overseeing the affairs in several state level units and revamping party organisations in different states. While dealing the political agenda at the national level, he emerged as an important spokesperson of the party and played key roles in several important occasions. He traveled length and breadth of the country and interacted with different leaders of the world.
